It has been reported that supposedly HT can help performance on systems using DX10 mode (not exactly sure how). So, my message is, if you have an Intel CPU and you don't seem to be achieving the frame rates that others seem to get, check that your hyperthreading is disabled, it might be something that releases your true potential! Dropping the autogen slider to Dense sees 20+ fps on final. So I deleted the FSX.cfg lines and rebooted with hyperthreading disabled, and restarted the exact same flight.Ībout 10 mile out I now saw 21 fps average, and even at 1 mile out I was seeing 12-14 fps, not ideal but certainly flyable. Quite jerky even for my not very demanding tastes. I was about 10 mile out and it was averaging around 16 fps, and as the Canberra environment gradually loaded it dropped to 6-8 fps about a mile out. So I added the AffinityMask=255 line to the FSX.cfg and rebooted the computer with hyperhreading enabled, and set up a flight pointing directly at Canberra Airport and Cityscape from the east, Complexity and Autogen both Extremely Dense, which is about as hard a load on the simulator as I can generate. I went on to some forums today and amongst the suggestions was to check that the CPU was running all 8 cores. (I run the standard FSX.cfg with only the Highmem tweak applied). I'm considering upgrading to a 4790K CPU and assocuited MB etc, but before I do I want to confirm that my machine isn't able to be tweaked further. In my Gigabyte BIOS it lies in the first screen under something like Advanced CPU Options. As most BIOS settings enable hyperthreading by default, if you haven't ever looked at your computer's BIOS to check, then it might be an idea to get in there and disable it if it is enabled. I have no idea why, I just go on results. This is for FSX I have no knowledge if it affects P3D.īasically, hyperthreading in the Intel CPUs has been shown to adversely affect frame rates, which seems a contradiction. This is an issue that has come up regularly over the years and having just confirmed that it is a potential frame rate killer once again I'm posting this to alert users who may have missed the topic before.
